Recap

The aces came out firing in this game. Justin Verlander revenged his first miserable start with an incredible game all around. Even at home, drawing after 1-2-3 innings for 7 straight innings, he was unable to get the desperately needed Fast Worker 2.0 as he started to tire in 8th despite a perfect game going on. An Inertia’d The Man Is Non-Stop kept him going strong though, as he completed the 8th without surrendering a baserunner, despite a 2-out mistake pitch to Jake Marisnick (who Grand Slam’d him against the Lobsters) that resulted in the second batter’s chart out for the Nokos.

Fergie might not have had the sexiness of the perfect game going, as he gave up a lead-off single to the first batter he faced, but he pitched a gem as well. Through 8 innings, he held the Chowda lineup scoreless, getting out of big jams in the 3rd and 4th, both times involving 1st and 2nd with 1 out opportunities that Fergie masterfully pitched out of. He earns a Fast Worker in the 3rd to extend his arm to 9 innings, putting even more pressure on Chowda to score before Verlander tires anymore. But through 8, it remained scoreless.

Verlander refused to return the ball to his manager, heading out to the face the bottom third of the Noko’s lineup now twice tired. After two quick outs, Hedges rolls a 20 on a Verlander’s chart, breaking up the perfect game and setting the stage for an epic showdown with the Straw Man and his Legends Never Die. JV gets the advantage, but with the additional +3 to swing, Straw Man rolls a net 22 for a home run!… Only it turns out, it was Splitter 2.0’d to a long, loud FB! Head to the bottom of the ninth still scoreless!

Fergie makes quick work in the bottom of the 9th, going 1-2-3 to earn his second Fast Worker and putting more pressure on Chowda to score sooner rather than later. On to the top of 10th, with almost everyone saying Justin should be pulled, Chowda leaves him in, letting him ride this no-hitter despite now being thrice tired. A one-out mistake pitch to a Not Throwing Away [His] Shot Markakis hits high off the outfield wall for a double, putting the Nokos in excellent position to score the go-ahead run. Matt Carpenter strides to the plate. After a flyball from Carpenter, Logan Forsythe gets his advantage and has Light Tower Power. All he needs is a single to have a great chance to take the lead, but is unable to do so, drawing a walk. JV calms down to strikeout his archnemesis Jake Marisnick to send it to the bottom of the 10th. Ottavino starts warming up as a four-inning tired Verlander does not look good.

Rajai Davis, who pinch-ran for Plawecki in the 8th and donned the catcher’s gear for 2 innings, gets a 1-out single off Fergie’s chart to give the Chowda some hope. Hosmer finally gets a sac bunt down, setting up a 2-out, RISP moment for Muncy. But Fergie is not going down so easily! Whipping out a Defend the Throne, all Fergie needs is a 6 or greater roll to all but ensure this game continues on. However, he rolls his first mistake of the game! Still with great odds of a batter’s chart out or a harmless walk, Muncy digs in for the swing. He rolls a natural 20, resulting in a double to walk it off! What a game, the most nail-bitter, heart-in-your-throat game I’ve been apart of in quite some time.
